...and "male vs female". So on and so forth.
(Disclaimer: I am a minority.)
Am I the only one who thinks all of this nonsense is really stupid and upsetting? Minorities (mostly on tumblr) seem to think it's okay to hate, bash, discriminate, and stereotype their opposites, but cry hate and discrimination or racism and sexism when their opposites get mad at them and fight back.
Another thing I've noticed is that if you try defending those opposites you are somehow helping them oppress minorities? I've had someone accuse me of being okay with racism against blacks just because I was saying that racism against whites isn't okay. (Also, I'd like to point out that the "power + prejudice" definition of racism is absolute BS. You can change the definition of racism if you want, but don't expect whites to give a shit after you tell them that their hurt feelings don't matter.)
Like it all really needs to stop. Of course we have a way to go with equal rights, but that doesn't mean it's okay to be an asshole to your opposite.
I like to consider myself pretty in the middle. Just like gay pride and black pride are okay, straight pride and white pride are okay too. Pride is part of a healthy upbringing. But for some reason, if you are proud of being white or straight, you're suddenly some sort of asshole racist or homophobic fellow. When minorities stand up for "opposite rights", the other minorities tend to call them self-hating or brainwashed.
Long story short, I hate when minorities do exactly what gets done to them. It's hypocritical and will get them no where.

Just like gay pride and black pride are okay, straight pride and white pride are okay too. In my experience, anyone who claims "white pride" is a racist. People of any race taking pride in their heritage is great; nobody bats an eye at "Irish pride"/"Italian pride"/etc. The difference is those ethnic descriptors come with cultural meaning, while there's no such thing as a generalized "white culture" to take pride in. With "black pride", you're mostly talking about African-Americans whose connection to their original cultures was severed from them generations ago, so it makes sense they'd they'd try to develop a shared identity in response to that loss. But I haven't met anyone into "white pride" who's not a racist asshole. Haven't met anyone into "straight pride" who wasn't a homophobe either.

One thing is for sure, everyone, no matter what group they belong to, needs to learn to be nicer to each other. Everyone deserves to have the same rights, and to feel good about themselves and their heritage. However, if someone is talking about "white pride" they usually are racist. Almost 10 years ago, I was at a certain message board that ended up being infested with those kind of people. They would spew hateful things, then turn around and claim they don't hate black people, they just feel like their rights are being taken away.

As I've noticed, the most racist people I've met have been black, and the most judgmental people have been gay. I think these people tend to think that because they've been discriminated against, they automatically don't discriminate against others, which is complete BS.
On the subject of 'white pride' and 'straight pride', I feel like that's a tread carefully area. The purpose behind black pride and gay pride is that these people have been abused/neglected/discriminated against/etc in the past, and they can still have pride for being who they are despite this. I think what people tend to take issue with is that because of that concept of pride, 'white' and 'straight' pride are either ignoring the violent pasts of the minorities or implying that they have somehow received the same treatment, both of which make people angry. And as hgrevolution pointed out, white and straight aren't cultures the same way black and gay are.
But I do hope that one day people will be able to have any sort of pride without being labeled as a bigot.
